What a beautiful person Gary was... inside and out. Always a gentleman and he had such a great smile. You couldn't help but smile when you saw him smile.
I am not sure but I believe that Gary died in a car accident...it was so sad...I heard that he had sent flowers to his girlfriend and she got them after he passed away. Someone told me that he was riding with some other Hazelwood grads as well...Rest in peace Gary...
Actually it was early 1973. The reason I know this is I was visiting his fraternity at Missouri Columbia with my girlfriends family and her younger brother was about to pledge (KA) that fall. When we walked in his picture was on the mantle in memory. I couldn't believe it! I had gone all through elementry school with Gary in Riverview Gardens, and we were best buddies. Then we moved to Florissant, both ending up at Hazelwood. Evidently he had just pinned his girlfriend right around Valentines and was heading to St. Louis for a visit with 3 other guys in a Volkswagen. Someone pulled out hitting them broadside and the 2 in front or the 2 in back did not survive - I just don't remember the exact details. As little kids he would come with my family when we would go to Pere Marquette State Park for the day and we would hike and picnic. The only thing was he used to get car sick and we would stop and then he'd be fine. He was a great guy as was his entire family.
