Lloyd R. Meyer VIEW PROFILE

WALKERTON, IN - Lloyd R. Meyer, 68, of Walkerton, passed away on Saturday, January 4, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, IN, from an Aortic Aneurysm.

Lloyd was born on May 22, 1951, in St. Louis, MO to the late Oliver H.L. and Selma F. (Minnkemann) Meyer. Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Angela R. Meyer of Mishawaka, IN and his son, William L. Meyer of Columbus, OH, from his previous marriage to Deborah S. Mann. He is also survived by three brothers, Arnold (Jeanne, deceased) of Highland, IL, Calvin (Sandra) of Huntley, IL, and Warren (Kathi) Meyer of Jerseyville, IL, along with several nieces and nephews, and his loving companion, Mitzi Knepper.

Following high school in Illinois, he was a graduate of University of Missouri-St. Louis. Lloyd came to the Michiana area in 1992 from Pittsburgh, PA. He retired from National Steel and became a bus driver for the John Glenn School Corporation, which he cherished. Lloyd would love to, as he would say, “piddle-outdoors” and enjoyed gardening, going to auctions and the theatre, golfing, canning, and being with his loving family. He truly enjoyed being a school bus driver and taking students to school, band events, athletic events, and field trips.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Lloyd's name to the John Glenn Scholarship Fund or Daniel Fortlander Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of John Glenn High School, 201 John Glenn Drive, Walkerton, IN 46574.

Lloyd was from one of the original farming families in BlackJack, MO, area farming off old Shackleford/Vale roads. Our 1st & 2nd grade writing/reading assignments at Mrs Mauch's Salem Lutheran School classroom  was to write about 'what-you-did-last-weekend': PINOCHLE was Lloyd's never failing reply!  'Counting Cards' made him wise at math; he was a sharp guy anyway. Farming families were close. Gosh how indelible of a memory 'pinochle' burned.  He was 'wirelike' strong, too; guess from all that farm work. We later 'suffered' together through accounting, calculus, economics, and statistic classes at MIT (Missouri In Town). His wedding song with Debbie was the Carpenter's "We've only just begun". We both became 'bookkeepers' from HHS-and damn proud of it-and then went on our separate ways. And I am very sure after his retirement from the financial world he was a damn find bus driver, especially with all stories he could relate of growing up as a 'farmers-kid'.

Lloyd was Honest & Measured as the day was long; something the professors at MIT did not comprehend and something HHS did not prepare us for- - - in 'those-days'. His childhood home is likely a subdivision today. But, his friendship and fellowship will always burn warmly-until we meet again./t

Lloyd was such a great and funny "farm boy"! He and his older brother Warren rode the same bus as I to HHS along with so many others out that way off Shackleford, Douglas (Lou Williams), Wehmers and Castlereigh Kiids. We ran track together, although he was more cross country like his brother! Will never forget driving on that S shaped turn (since straightened) right at his house in the rain. I lost control of my dads big boat Pontiac ending up in one of his fields! His Dad and boys came out to get me unstuck from the mud so I wouldnt have to call my Dad and tell him... he never knew! All those memories of country living and growing up, track, circling Steak n Shake so many times while he was courting Deb and her pals in their car.... makes me smile always. I'm so thankful I had the chance to know such a wonderful guy and his family. Hope to see him driving my bus when I leave this world and hear his incredible laugh... RIP Lloyd
