MAR 2018 UPDATE: Retirement is indeed grand! First grandchild (born last March - a 28 week preemie) is about to celebrate 1st birthday and is doing just fine. Medical miracle❤️. The twin daughters are doing well - have completed their first two years on Active duty with the Navy and are both assigned to ships, one in Yokohama Japan and one currently cruising somewhere in the Arabian Gulf. We continue to spend summers at the aframe in Missouri, but live in Florida and travel when the urge strikes. Doing another transatlantic cruise soon and will explore new territory in Ireland and Scandinavia after arriving in Rome. Ah, life is good! #blessed
AUG 2014 UPDATE: It's been an amazing first year of retirement. Best job I EVER had. Love living with my wonderful husband in sunny Florida (the winter here was just awesome - quite a bit milder than the one endured in the Midwest!!). Life is just grand - lots of travelling and doing what I want, when I want and IF I want!
JUL 2013 UPDATE: After a 6 month extension for Active Duty, I retired (for good this time!) with 30 years and 23 days of service. Moved to FL to FINALLY live with my husband after more than a year and a half of marriage.
JAN 2012 UPDATE: Called back to Active Duty for 12 months-voluntarily though) to Human Resources Command at Ft Knox. Great job, so happy to comply.
NOV 2011 UPDATE: "Ones in a Lifetime" wedding on 11-11-11 in Las Vegas.
OCT 2011 UPDATE: Retired, though likely short lived - the Army called me back within 5 days, so I will likely return to Ft Knox in January, so I will enjoy my short three month retirement in sunny FL.
AUG 2011 UPDATE: hanging up the uniform and retiring after 28 years in the Army on October 1, 2011. Moving to Florida to enjoy the sun, sand, boat drinks and my new honey (see above spouse/partner) - he will be both!.

After graduation, I went off to Mizzou for freshman year with Judy Theis (Dillard) as a roommate. Supposedly, I was studying nursing, somehow my mom didn't believe that when she saw my grades, and I fell madly in love that spring and I refused to return to school in the fall. At age 18, I was sure my outcome would be different, but suprisingly it didn't work out! At least it was just a "breakup" and didn't involve a "divorce" and ultimately my heart did heal. So next, I became a flight attendant (or a stewardess as they were known back then) and moved to Atlanta. Wow, sounds more glamourous than it really is! After a year or so of that, I came to my senses, went back to school, became a registered nurse and ultimately a nurse practitioner. I married in 1979, joined the Army Reserves, and birthed the child. I divested myself of the husband (good move), raised the child (turned out ok) and remained in the Army Reserves (still there 26 years later), and was promoted to Colonel in 2005. As a nurse practitioner, I have worked in a variety of positions, most recently in private practice providing psychiatric services to a variety of patients. I was mobilized by the Army and deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2007. I spent the next year proudly serving as Deputy Commander for Nursing and ran two combat support hospitals in Al Asad and Tikrit, Iraq. I returned home in June 2008. Today I remain mobilized on Active Duty, but the good news is that I am stationed here in St. Louis and sleep in my own bed each night. Really, Dorothy had it right: "there is no place like home".
