Comments:

I think that it’s not so shocking to me that we are all looking older in our current photos but that our senior pictures (taken when we all knew EVERYTHING) show us so very young. What has been amazing to me is with what I see looking in a mirror and/or the stiffness and soreness I feel that comes with the bumps and bruises of mileage, I can still think like or imagine myself as I was at 18 (most likely and unfortunately with little more maturity). In thinking about how to capture the last forty years into a paragraph or two, I went back to the biographies we submitted for our 20th and 25th reunions. In short, not much about me has changed since then – other than, perhaps a greater appreciation for good food and drink (as a visual appraisal will confirm) and letting that guy dye more and more of my beard the color of “wisdom” (hoping that appearances CAN fool all of the people some of the time or some of the people all of the time).

Michelle and I are still working on our 1896 home in the near south side of the City. We are now in year 23 of our original 5 year plan re-doing some of the things we have already done and finally getting around to some of things we’ve never done. Our continued love of travel and good friends (my father always used to tell me that a good friend will kick you in the butt when you need it – mine sure has remained sore over the years), I think, does a lot to keep our lives in balance. After a time in the private practice of law and several terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, I have enjoyed my now more than twenty years on the trial bench for Missouri’s 22nd Judicial Circuit (the City of St. Louis to where I moved a year after our graduation).

My warmest appreciation and heartiest congratulations go to all of you who have worked to put this event together. I must say that looking through the website makes me nostalgic but, more than that I think, makes me grateful and mindful of the dignity, fragility and comedy of life. Thank you for the memories that you all have provided me.

School Story:

My lawyer told me not to say "nothing"! That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Besides, memory is the second thing that goes ................ (I forget the first).
